Diamond Creek Water

Intro
Diamond Creek Water is a 9.5 pH alkaline ionized spring water brand, bottled at the source in Columbiana County, Ohio and distributed across the East Coast. When JA Design came on board, Diamond Creek already had real distribution: 232 retail locations from Georgia to Virginia. The growth was real. The brand infrastructure was not.
The Challenge
232 stores. No system holding it together.
Diamond Creek came in asking for a website review. The audit surfaced something larger: packaging inconsistency between the 1-gallon and 1-liter labels, a store locator that required manual geotag entry per location, no documented brand foundation, and a shipping box that looked nothing like the retail product.
At 232 stores, those gaps were manageable. At 2,000, every one of them would compound. Distribution was outpacing the brand.
Work
The Approach
Preserve the equity. Build the system underneath it.
A full rebrand was considered early in the process and recommended against — the core identity had equity worth preserving. What was missing wasn't an identity. It was a system. Before touching a single deliverable, the work started with brand architecture that anchored every decision going forward.
- Brand architecture — documented voice, customer personas, and competitive positioning; the foundation that made every downstream decision faster and more consistent
- Label system — unified arch-shaped labels across the 1-gallon and 1-liter bottles, sharing a visual language for immediate shelf recognition
- Website redesign — a full site rebuild with a spreadsheet-driven store locator, replacing manual geotag entry
- Event marketing kit — a branded 10×10 pop-up canopy and tablecloth for a coherent physical retail presence
- Shipping box redesign — carrying the brand identity through the full distribution chain
- Brand illustration — custom visual assets extending the premium positioning across web and print
The diamond mark, the alkaline positioning, the premium-but-accessible aesthetic — all preserved. What changed was the system underneath, built to scale without a designer in the room for every decision.
The Implication
Distribution can outpace brand.
This engagement demonstrates JA Design's ability to operate as a fractional creative director inside a growth-stage consumer brand — starting with brand architecture, building a scalable system across packaging and digital, and leaving the client with infrastructure that could grow without requiring a designer in the room for every decision.
The earlier that gap gets addressed, the more momentum compounds instead of leaks.
